Frequently Asked Questions

Do Go Raw products contain genetically modified ingredients?

The term GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism, and we, at Go Raw, refuse to use ingredients that have had their genetic material, or DNA, deliberately altered to carry new traits. A large movement has started against GMO foods due to concerns that they may impact human health and the environment’s natural order.

What if I have an allergy to gluten?

We have our own dedicated production plant in Northern California that is completely gluten free, wheat free, nut free, dairy free, soy free, vegan and kosher. We don't make products for other companies, nor do we process any of our ingredients outside of our own plant—that way our customers can trust our products.

What does gluten free mean, and why is it important?

Our products are made without any ingredients containing gluten, a protein found in grains such as wheat and all Triticum species, including spelt, kamut, durum, barley, oats and their crossbreed varieties. Gluten is known to cause inflammation in the small intestine of people with celiac disease, and causes additional problems in digestion for many others.

Isn't buckwheat wheat?

No, the name is very misleading—it’s not a cereal grain or a grass. Buckwheat is actually related to rhubarb and sorrel, and its “grain” is actually the dried fruit of the plant. However, when dried or ground, it acts very much like wheat and other cereal grains, which is why we use it in our granolas.

What if I have an allergy to nuts?

We have our own dedicated production plant in Northern California that is completely nut free, gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, soy free, vegan, and kosher. Although it is not a true tree nut, if you have an allergy to coconut, please note that many of our products use coconut.

What is agave nectar?

Agave nectar is produced from the blue agave, a large plant with long, spiked leaves that thrives in southern Mexico. While no sugar is perfect, agave nectar does have a lower glycemic index than some other forms of sugar and also has a mild, pleasant flavor that allows the subtle flavor of our simple, whole ingredients to really shine.

Do you melt your chocolate?

Go Raw organic chocolate is made by dehydrating the cacao bean (the fruit of the cacao tree) at low temperatures and then grinding it into a powder. Because it is a powder, the cacao can be mixed with other ingredients without melting it.
