Dana Vollmer is a swimmer and four-time Olympic gold medalist. She set the world record for the 100-meter butterfly at the London Olympics in 2012, and won three gold medals there.
Born in 1987 and raised in Granbury, Texas, Dana Vollmer began competitive swimming early. At age 12 she was the youngest person in the Olympic Trials. She was diagnosed with a heart condition at age 14 but continued to swim, and won a gold medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004. In the London Olympics in 2012, she won three gold medals and broke a world record for the 100-meter butterfly.
At the 2012 Olympics in London, Vollmer won a gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly, and broke the world record with a time of 55.98 seconds. She was the first woman to beat 56 seconds in the 100-meter event, and she did so in spite one of her swim caps—the outer cap worn to cover the strap of the goggles and reduce drag—popping off in the middle of the race. Vollmer also claimed gold medals in the 4-by-100-meter medley relay and the 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay at the 2012 Olympic Games.

In just five short years, Michelle Konkoly has risen to the top of the International Paralympic swimming scene. After surviving a fall out of a five-story window in 2011, Michelle was left with a spinal cord injury and permanent weakness in her legs. At the time, she was a freshman on the Georgetown University swim team, and she refused to let this traumatic injury stand in the way of her dreams. She not only re-learned to walk and swim, but continued to compete for the Georgetown Hoyas, even becoming team Captain.
When Michelle discovered Paralympic swimming in 2012, she quickly accelerated to the top of the world rankings. She holds six American and two PanAmerican records in S9 sprint freestyle events, and is a three-time silver medalist at IPC Swimming World Championships.
Michelle currently lives in Naples, FL, and trains with T2 Aquatics in pursuit of representing Team USA at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. She graduated from Georgetown in 2014 as a biology major, and will attend medical school in the future.
